Do You Always Feel Like Something Bad Is About To Happen?

Is your fear of the future keeping you from pursuing your life goals? Do you lose sleep worrying about tomorrow and feeling like you’re on the brink of failure? Does your perception of not being good enough keep you from meeting people or sustaining meaningful relationships?

When you are living with anxiety, it can feel like nothing is as it should be. Perhaps you always brace yourself for the worst possible outcome in every situation. Despite your desire to relax and calm down, your anticipation of things going wrong makes it hard for you to stay in the present moment and enjoy it for what it is.

The physical symptoms your anxiety causes could be contributing to your distress. You might feel exhausted for reasons you can’t explain or suffer from chronic stomach aches or headaches. Sometimes, you may even feel like you are out of your body—watching yourself from a distance, disconnected from what’s taking place in front of you.

The anxiety you’re living with might make you believe you’re incapable of achieving your goals. You may suffer from imposter syndrome and doubt your own talents and skills—inside, you feel like a fraud who is unworthy of any recognition.

Anxiety could also impact your relationships and connection with others. You may find that you rarely text friends back, hate talking on the phone, or struggle to follow through with social plans. Perhaps you feel the need to rehearse conversations in your head ahead of time so that you don’t say something you’ll regret. This discomfort could lead you to self-isolate, which only increases your fear and disconnection.

The good news is that anxiety treatment can help you overcome these challenges so you can live in a more peaceful, confident, and connected way.

Our Social Media-Fueled Culture Is A Breeding Ground For Anxiety

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health concern in the United States, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. It is estimated that over 40 million adults—close to twenty percent—suffer from some form of anxiety. Life in today’s America is a formula for anxiety. In addition to obvious examples of anxiety-producing events, such as divorce or breakups, losing a job, or experiencing trauma, there are many subtler experiences that cause anxiety. We often don’t recognize that the social stew we are all cooking in together can amplify our anxiety symptoms.

Never before have we had such access—or at least “perceived” access—to each other’s lives. With the advent of social media, anxiety has become an ever-present facet of how we present and curate our lifestyles to the world. Social media has normalized and perpetuated unrealistic and, frankly, unhealthy perceptions of what life should look like.

We absorb these perceptions like sponges, comparing ourselves to others and despairing that we will never measure up. Anxiety creeps in to tell us that everyone is doing it right except for us. We might try to spin what happens in our lives in a positive light to keep up appearances, but this disconnect between who we are and who we appear to be leaves us feeling hollow and out of step with our true selves.

Many of us struggle with overcoming anxiety because of the shame that tends to come with it. Sometimes we think that we would feel better if only we were stronger, more organized, or more likeable. Our sense of shame often boils down to some harmful belief we hold, such as the idea that having anxiety means we are inherently flawed.

Fortunately, anxiety treatment can help you feel confident in your own skin, optimistic about the future, and at peace with your thoughts.

Treatment For Anxiety Is A Pathway To Positive Change In Your Life

Let’s face it: merely talking about anxiety can make you anxious, especially if you are afraid that others will judge you. Here at Space to Heal, you can share whatever is on your mind without fear of judgment. Regardless of your story or circumstances, you will find acceptance, empathy, and hope when you begin anxiety therapy. With over 15 years of experience working with people who need help with anxiety—everyone from college students to professionals—our flexible and collaborative approach will guide you to solutions that will instill self-confidence and a sense of peace.

At our first session together, we will discuss what has brought you to treatment and what you hope to get out of it. The aim of our practice is to put you at ease and ensure that you feel heard, honored, and accepted from the moment we begin. We will waste no time identifying the negative self-perceptions that hold you back. We will teach you how to shatter your self-imposed barriers so that you can gradually restore agency in all aspects of your life.

During ongoing sessions, we will listen to you to determine your strengths. By guiding you to acknowledge your talents and gifts, we will help you gain self-confidence. Moreover, examining the origin of your behaviors and emotions will help you understand why the present-day looks like it does in the context of your past. You will be able to relate your current work stressors, relationship dynamics, parenting challenges, and other present issues back to your upbringing or past life events. In this way, you will identify how the patterns and behaviors you developed as a child impact your life situations now. Moreover, you will learn techniques to break these negative cycles and replace them with helpful coping strategies.

We customize our treatment to meet your individualized needs, drawing from various modalities including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), or others.

EMDR is a form of therapy that believes the mind can heal from a traumatic injury in much the same way the body does. We use a step-by-step clinical approach to remove the block that forms within the mind when trauma occurs, allowing the brain to speed up its natural ability to heal itself. Meanwhile, EFT helps you understand and make sense of your emotions and the role they play in your behaviors and reactions. By increasing your awareness and acceptance of your emotions, you can develop healthy coping strategies for regulating them. With CBT, we will help you identify distorted self-perceptions and negative ways of thinking and replace them with healthier ones.

When you decide to schedule that first appointment, make that first phone call, or send that first email, it means you are already on a path to change. We will give you the tools and support to guide the rest of your journey toward healing, self-confidence, and hope.

But you may still be wondering whether anxiety treatment is right for you…

I don’t have time for anxiety therapy.

We bring therapy to you wherever you are in life. Because we provide counseling online, you can use your phone, laptop, or desktop computer to receive anxiety counseling at a time that works best for you. You won’t have to worry about traffic, commuting to our office, or finding someone to watch the kids. And while we aim to help you make positive changes from day one, we will always move at a pace that feels good to you.

Do you take insurance? I don’t know if I can afford to pay on my own.

We know that therapy is an investment and appreciate that you want to be as financially savvy as possible. As a private pay practice, we have streamlined the process of working with your insurance provider. We will determine your out-of-network benefits and submit a claim to your provider so that reimbursement from them is possible.

I’ve been dealing with anxiety for so long, it’s just part of who I am.

Anxiety doesn’t have to be a life sentence you are doomed to accept. We have helped many people overcome unimaginable barriers and have seen how something as simple as a little bit of hope has transformed lives. Our goal is to do the same for you, allowing you to slow down and enjoy life instead of being held back by fear.
